are there any programs I can use to update my ipod insted of itunes? It would also be nice if it could read itunes library files so i dont have to rebuild my whole library/playlist!

    Thanks

    WinAmp works just fine.
I've been using it since 2002 for various iPods.

Ooh. Foobar works? Sweeeet. Does it also rip CDs? That would be wicked! I'll have to check. If so, I could fogret about iTunes altogether! :D :D :D

I'm pretty sure it does, but i would have recommended SongBird. It has iPod support along with a library importer.

Well, I'm not super into my iPod. I just stick some music on it, and if it plays, good. If it plays in order, even better. :p

Using a browser engine for an application was a horrible idea in the first place.

Songbird is buggy, annoying, slow, rip-off of itunes and has memory leak problems albeit some decent features.

Then again if your a firefox enthusiast such as Calvin here (no offence, just i've noticed that you seem to be the one here coming up with firefox news) then you'll see right past the problems, but if your a normal user you may wish to see past the problems but really cant.

To top it off they force you to install quicktime... such a ****slap

I'm not really a fan of SongBird for some of the reasons you mentioned, but for what some people want to do, they can look past its problems. Which is why i brought it up.

I second Mediamonkey. It's a million times better than iTunes and Winamp. Easier to use, more customizable, better looking. The only down side is that it doesn't have video support, but for everything else works wonderfully. Give it a try.

Winamp isn't all that helpful for ripping music, though.

And, since the ugly classic skin shows up in Vista thumbnails and whatnot, I'm using foobar.

Not to go off subject, but why do a lot of people prefer foobar? Is it better then winamp, and does it take up less memory and stuff?

It's faster, lighter, sexier (when customized), and from what I've seen/heard has better sounding audio.

Ahh thanks. Just tried it. I think I'll stick with WinAmp. I got a pretty sick skin from DevianArt, but WinAmp works better for me. Heh.

    I do like foobar though.

Edit: I'm liking that FooAva skin Calvin. It's pretty sleek.

So you open up Winamp, go to open a file, select a movie file, and it doesn't play?

It sounds like you don't have the right video codec installed to play it. If you right-click on the file, select properties, and then advanced (at least in XP; I assume it's similar in Vista), what does it say next to video compression?

i have CCCP installed. so i dont think its a lack of codecs. i downloaded it from the official site. i am beginning to wonder if winamp only plays nsv vid files.

It might be because WinAmp doesn't like CCCP. As they listed in their wiki/faq. Try using Media player classic.

according to that wiki, it says that it will play most files with a moderate amount of tweaking. care to explain? sorry if i seem cranky as i just got up(college student).

Have you done the moderate amount of tweaking required? If not, using MPC is a lot easier and hassle free. Which is why i suggested you try it.

i have used MPC before and i like it. although i have to do a little window resizing to see the video as the vid initially opens in a small window. just out of curiosity, what tweaking would have to be done to make winamp play vids?

Man, a poll would have been nice. From what I've read, Foobar seems like what I would like to try, although Mediamonkey also looks good to me. Of the different ones (Winamp, Mediamonkey, Foobar, Songbird, and iTunes), which are good on CPU resources?

It should open the video at its native resolution. But if that you want them bigger, go to "View, Options, Start files in full screen". I don't know what tweaks you should have done, as i just use MPC.
Why don't you just download both and try them, it won't hurt.
