ok dell tech support used some remote assistance problem to acess my computer and fixed some stuff for me. i was wondering if there were any free remote assistance problem out there that has the ability to let me control the keyboard and mouse of another computer and also let me see everything on the other computer's screen. the reason im asking is that my little is dorming and i want to be able to connect to him to fix any problems he has. we both have windows xp.

CrossLoop is my favoured solution since it is extremely simple to use.

I like team viewer the best...it seems to be down tonight though....

another option is to install live mesh on both computers.

As for security issues--any time you open a window (metaphorically), something can fly in--that applies to opening a browser, email, etc.

Teamviewer and crossloop have the benefit of not being on all the time--live mesh does not require someone to be at the other machine to let you in (as do some other solutions like log me in, etc), but for simplicities sake, nothing is easier than live mesh

    Another Vote for TeamViewer :)

About the "constantly running" - you can instal Teamviewer and have it run constantly, but in this case you can chane the password to something static (make sure its long enough and secure) or have a longer dynamic password.

TemaViewer can be run as "installed" on both computers or as a "mobile" application.
So you can use it without installing it.

One more note - TeamViwer does not allow me to control Kaspersky for example - I think on the same basis, it may not be able to control UAC.
But for that you have a phone/skype and the person at the other end :)
