Definitely Gmail. The best email service right now.

Oh and if you use Hotmail and want to use Outlook 2003 or 2007, search for Outlook Connector. It's a plugin by Microsoft that will allow you to use your Hotmail account with Outlook.

    Ditto for Gmail.

I use IMAP right now, but I'm going back to POP3. I don't like the way everything behaves with IMAP.

I've used aol since 2004. No problems at all.

And with outlook 2007 - it even 'self configures' too.

No complaints. Didn't even need to install their cr@ppy software...

No you don't, you just have to add the Outlook Connector to your Outlook, it's free from MS.

I'd be weary about that Outlook connector. I installed it. Everything was fine but then ran into a few problems.
I don't know why/how but it downloaded every email I ever had in my Hotmail account- even though I deleted them and had 20 emails sitting in my account. It downloaded well in excess of 2000 emails- bizaare.

AND now I can't access "Email Accounts" to access email settings. Outlook tells me to reinstall in an error message. I did- twice for that matter and still the same problem.
    I'd be careful with that.

    Anyone else experience these problems?

Just wondering, did you just delete or did you clear the trash too? Because I think it could be that it was downloading all the "new" emails to Outlook, which would be all the emails it has not downloaded yet.

You can buy your own domain with godaddy.com for like $10. Comes with free email and webhosting. Set up as much emails as you want under your domain and it has spam filtering.

If you wanna use that email for MSN messenger, you register it with Live custom domains.

I had that annoying error issues when i first installed it. I think i uninstalled it, cleaned the registry and re-installed it. I also tried Detect and Repair option.

Cant exactly remember what i did to fix it, but once i fixed it everything worked out perfectly.

could use anything BUT gmail. I mean gmail is the only email that works flawless with Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, and all without extra modifications or special downloads or workarounds. If want to use yahoo with pop3 for outlook you have to pay them. Hotmail, same thing. Don't even get me started with aol. Gmail is the only free service that was designed solely with the user in mind. As a stand alone product, the web based gmail site can't be beat either. More free storage, more capabilities and there are all kinds of third party modifications to tailor gmail to your liking. I am very familiar with the competition and I must say, I can't think of anything that Yahoo, or hotmail, or aol has that gmail doesn't have and so much more. Did I mention far less advertisements than anybody else. And when you go to your mailbox at gmail, you go straight to your inbox. I dont know about you, but that is where I want to go when I want to check my mail. Try that with yahoo for instance, There is no way to set yahoo that you can go straight to your inbox upon opening yahoo mail. You are forced to go to their main page first with all the ads and other third party BS first.

Have I convinced you enough??? Oh and keep an eye out for Google Wave coming this fall. It's going to change the way we all think about email.

    Cheers !

    uM..no.
I think Live mail (MSN) is better, it has "me" in mind, lol. I could care less about other users. Yes.. I know I'm greedy.
As a standalone product, Live mail is better than Gmail
-More storage (25GB for free to be exact)
-As a more visually appealing interface
-more capabilities than Gmail because it integrates with other services as well. E.g. skydrive, that's another 25GB of storage for free. Live Sync+ Live mesh, another 10GB for free...etc. That's about 60GB of free storage from Microsoft's super fast servers.
-Integrated into windows. E.g. I can upload/backup my photo directly to livemail/livephoto/livemesh/live sync/Skydrive through many applications inside windows without having to open up the browser. E.g. I can backup my photos in live photo gallary straight to live sync, live mesh or live photos.
-The same live mail account also works on things such as office live work space, MS connect, MDSN, Technet, Windows live messenger..etc

Yes, it's hard to not get it confused with Windows Live Mail which is a desktop app that replaces Outlook Express and Windows Mail. With Windows Live Mail you can access multiple email accounts at once. Now that you can add email accounts to your Hotmail account from the web interface, it's kinda redundant unless you like being able to see your mail offline, or like desktop UI. (like I do)

I must admit that Windows Live Hotmail has a very slick web UI, blows GMail away, themes or not...

Opps.. actually Windows Live hotmail has unlimited storage instead of the 25GB limit.

Why was a thread from 2008 revived??

And by the way - I have POP access on a free yahoo account and it works fine :)
I think they tried to move it to paid only, but its free accounts too :)

Just so you know ;) Or at least it works for me :)

And now I'll report this thread-- its too old...

I have no problems at all using Gmail, Hotmail, and MS exchange on Outlook.
