Have you tried uninstalling/re-installing iTunes? Reboot the computer between the uninstall & install.

i tried running winamp (latest) as well, it also froze for no apparent reason. i am beginning to think it's the machine/drivers installed. so far i have the latest drivers and software updates on my machine....
maybe someone has isolated the issue, obviously apple can't write good code, but what driver/software could be causing itunes AND winamp to freeze ?
i'm really at a loss to figure out what's going on. -

Really, you ask for experts, and when we tell you that it's a known problem (including for Vista x64) and tell you how to solve it, you get all uppity? I'd recommend you change your attitude. -
and your last comment was uncalled for, i am not poking at anyone, just trying to be informative. so get off my back ok. -

You're still having machine lockup issues. A BSOD is simply Windows being able to respond at least somewhat to a lockup. Locking hard is very, very similar to a BSOD. Seriously... try the same solutions in those links. I'd bet they'll fix it for you.

Ditch iTunes.

maybe my ram modules are bad....is there a known issue with ram quality on the m1730 ? i'll go ask in the lounge....

I like WMP11, personally... I just like its interface the best, and that fact that, unlike iTunes, you can view and edit a playlist alongside (and visible on the screen at the same time as) your library view.
But if you prefer an iTunes-like interface, then I'd suggest J River Media Jukebox. (The free version is music-only though.) Winamp and Songbird are worth a look too.
If you are interested in a buying DRM-free music downloads online, I recommend Amazon MP3. -
Thats weird. No info regarding faulting module, exception code, fault offest.
+1 Ditch iTunes or downgrade to iTunes 7. iTunes 8 has been buggy from the start.
Go for RealPlayer or WMP.
Faulty RAM Modules will trouble the whole OS, not only iTunes. -
thought that it could be faulty ram because i encountered the same problem after using winamp for a few hrs.
the only thing i have a problem with in wmp is that it doesn't have as robust an organizational system as does itunes, example: no such thing as disc #ing, sorting, and columns display is a little iffy too. plus most of the discs i start ripping come in with the wrong tags.
i don't have a problem re-encoding my library disc by disc into wma format and storing it in wmp otherwise....
but i have a feeling wmp 12 may be just around the corner.
i do agree that itunes 8 sucks, but i can't find verification anywhere that itunes 7 is any more stable. -
-
RealPlayer's pretty decent now, you can turn off all the ads.
I mean I tend to like the programs I mentioned better... but RealPlayer isn't bad at all.
As for WMP12 being just around the corner... who cares? It'll be just around the corner no matter what you run in the meantime. There's always something new just around the corner. Your wmp11 media files will work fine in wmp12 I'm sure. And... why wma format? If you need to re-encode, just use mp3 and you can play them anywhere you want.
Also, if you're using AAC, it's probably possible to get AAC codecs for WMP... I haven't looked into it though. There are also plenty of other media players that can handle AAC, as long as you're not using files purchased with Apple's DRM on them. -
get rythmbox music player
-
-
Well I guess my usage is just different from yours... I don't use AAC and I never rip in WMP (I use CDex for that although I really haven't ripped anything in a while). And I have no idea what I'd use disc numbering for...
Check out J River... it's a lot like iTunes but seems to be more powerful. It has every option imaginable and then some. Only downside is that the free version is music-only. It doesn't limit the library size though. -
regarding disc number, i use it so that i don't have to put the disc number in the album title. wmp uses something called "sets", which is bascically disc number. but it doesn't allow you to display it as a column in the library (don't understand why).
anyone really good with vista x64 ? please read, apphang info post
