I've used this guide quite a few times when creating slipstreamed versions of XP for extra performance with great success, but do read what the different things do so you don't do stuff like shutdown RPC or similar :)

I use it right after I do a clean install. I use the "Safe" settings on services. All runs very smooth on my current Lenovo. :D

tried "tweaked" mode before, and messed up my wireless connection,
so I went to restore and didn't try any other plans after that.

    I love blackviper :3

I've been using mostly safe settings with a few power user ones and slipstreaming into nLited XP.

Thanks for that site, I'll check it out on my next reformat. Is there any way to save the services settings so that if I set them to my liking and reformat, I'll be able to quickly/easily put them in to effect without going through the services one-by-one again?

I've used blackviper before. Read what each service does before disabling it. That way you can make sure you don't disable something you need.

Thanks for the link! I ended up running through all of them on safe. Made a great change to my booting speed and overall system speed.

What's the RPC service? Sounds fishy to me.

EDIT: I stopped it and something like this came up:

(Correct me if I'm wrong) RPC(remote procedure call) is a method of invoking a process on a server from a client. You stopped the RPC process so now you can't connect to the server. For example, maybe RPC was needed to call the Windows Update server, but since you cancelled it, it now can't. Try to leave it enabled if possible (since it gave you that error message).
