    im looking for a free application that will allow me to set a timer and shut off my laptop when time has elapsed. ill specifically use this to turn off my laptop when listening to music at night or during downloads while i sleep.
    could any of you recommend any.

    Start -> type 'cmd' -> Right click -> Run as Administrator -> type this at prompt...

    Code:
    shutdown /s /t XX
    XX is the amount of time (in seconds) you want the computer to wait before shutting down.

    You can even turn that into a .bat file (think of it as a text file that Windows can execute) and double click on it when you want it to run the timer.
