    hi,

I own a nifty Sony Vaio AW with Vista Home Premium, which wont change its power plan when I unplug/plug it. I want it to automatically switch to a low energy using plan when on battery, and to a full performance plan when I plug it back in.
so far I have to change that manually in my Windows, and haven't found an option to somehow toggle it. all my other notebooks (acer, asus) automatically switched their power setting when unplugged, so my question is are there any options to do that, in Vista?

type "power options" on vista search. It allows you to adjust ur setting when plugged and unplugged.

    or

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings

Yeah, you can just edit the advanced settings and setup one of the power modes to be high performance on power and low performance on battery.

Right click on the battery Icon in the sytem tray - then power options.

Can you tell me how well this program works. I've been wanting something like this. I just don't want something to screw up my laptop.

PS: Do you have 64 bit vista?

Right click the battery Icon in the system tray>Power Options>Change plan settings>Change advanced power settings

    It's all there.

I'm afraid it doesn't work at all, the install routine crashes at about 90%

change plan settings/advanced power settings refers to one plan which I can alter, I can't find any option to switch to a different plan.
could you please attach a screenshot so I can see what youre referring to? thanks

You can try out Vista Battery Saver.

You can avoid 3rd party tools, and create a Custom Power Plan, and in the Advanced Power Options, assign your own custom setings for each module, when On Battery and when Plugged In.

There's no way to within vista switch between two power plans automatically, but if you install vista battery saver it has the option to do just that.
