So I'm meddling with Linux; shoot me! But I'd like to know how to produce an image of my hard drive to back it up so I can use linux. What I have in mind is sort of restoring this 15GB piece to the HD and just starting to run WinXP Home without having to use my recovery DVD or reinstalling my OS. How do I do that? Does Retrospect or Nero allow you to do this?

You can use either Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image, I prefer Acronis True Image myself. It is less taxing on your system resources and a whole lot faster, plus it is very easy to use.
