I also like to add SpywareGuard (monitors various items to prevent things like browser hijacks, etc.) and SpyBot Search & Destroy to run every once in a while to clean up the system. Not really anti-hacker, but more protection for the computer.

Mcafee internet security would do the trick its what I use since I quit using norton, its fast and very effective. Support is great to.

AVG is good for a freebie but really only covers the basics of virus protection and nothing more, you'll need to add a firewall like zonealarm with it.

You definetly want to have and run some spyware protection: I recommend spybot and ad aware

A week back Mcafee was deleting excel files, did anyone catch that? What was that all about.

My protection, Kaspersky + Router Firewall + Constantly Monitoring Connections and killing unwanted connections. I use TCPview for this. You can google and get it, very small and useful program.

Run that too and i love it compared to Norton(don't want to start a flame war or anything)

Also as someone else mention Hacker is a broad term and just to let you know the average hacker isn't interested with what is on your computer (some but not many), they either want to turn your computer into a zombie system(carries out tasks for them) or as a access point (keeps people from finding the hackers ip address as he is routing through your machine). Most hackers are insterested in Paris Hilton's address book or a group of Visa numbers.

ZoneAlarm Pro Security suite with the full version of the firewall, antivirus, and all that great stuff. You gotta pay for it. But you get what you pay for. I bring my laptop to school where it is surrounded by Script Kitty Sharks. No problems at all.

Zonealarm runs the CA engine I think, I wouldn't trust them too much when it comes to total security, they're not rated to highly to me..

I would use Kaspersky Internet Security Suite or Bitdefender Professional...
