hey guys i'm looking to see what you guys think is the best antivirus and best firewall out there. i'm looking for something that doens't take a lot of resources, has very good security. i know that kaspersky and nod32 do a good job but i know kaspersky tends to pick up a lot of false trojans. i heard avast was pretty good too. for firewalls i heard that zone alarm takes too much resources and just isn't efficient enough, but outpost is a better go. any suggestions?

I do believe there is a large thread already started about the best antivirus and probably one already about best firewall. Just do a search.

If your prepared to spend money...go for Sophos AntiVirus or, Eset NOD32. As with a firewall, if your router has one, just use that. If it dosen't go with Lavasoft Firewall.

I'm not too sure if Sophos is sold to public though, I think it's only to businesses and institutions, as I got mine from a university.

NOD32 is excellent...I say go with that. But I prefer Sophos, get Sophos if you can.

If you want free stuff...use this combination:

    AntiVirus - Grisoft AVG Free

    AntiSpyware - Windows Defender

    Firewall - Zone Alarm

I agree with Lil Mayz reccomendations. ESET's Nod-32 is excellent and since all routers are a firewall, if you have one you are all set. I would throw in Kerrio's firewall as being another good free one, if it's still free.
