I use this program called GoodSync, I actually bought it, it is not really a backup, but a sync program.
I don't backup my entire drive, but I just sync my documents, pictures and music with an external drive, since if your comp dies, you can always get the system and software back, but those documents, music and pictures will be lost forever...
I tried backing up but it just takes way too much time, disk space and effort for my liking, so instead of backing up, I just sync every day or so...

    my 2cents

I like Seagate DiscWizard. It's free if one of your drives is a Seagate and is a repackaged Acronis TI.

Edit: It's not a full feature TI but does back up and clone, but you can buy TI for 40% off through a link.

that is what i did i backed up the whole thing on dual layer dvd's.. i have not tried to restore them yet though so i can not comment on that. they look to appear to have the right files on them though and i did let it verify them after burning them

Using Acronis powered Seagate DiscWizard I recently cloned a SATA HD but had a major glitch thanks to Dell's Media Direct HPA which *shrunk* my new 120GB HD to the 60GB HD that it replaced.

After nearly a week straightening that out and repartioning my new HD, everything is fine. Some of the programs I needed to use were Hitachi Feature Tool, Selectedit, Partition Magic, and Parted Magic.

I also moved My Documents to D drive. I used SDW for a full backup and use Karen's Replicator for incremental backups.

Except for Partition Magic (which I only used to verify a bad partition) all the programs were free.

    Acronis TrueImage

Its fast, a lot faster than Norton Ghost. Ghost takes forever just to load the Recovery Media whereas Acronis is only a few seconds. Plus I can restore the MBR easily when I use a different version of Windows, which is useful since Acer uses a custom MBR to load its recovery program.

I like the Complete PC Restore included in Vista Business/Ultimate. It backed up reasonably fast and the DVD's it created successfully restored my system. Although it doesn't have any advanced options, for people like me who really need something simple, it has worked great.

I gave up on Acronis True Image (ATI) today after several months of trying, unsuccessfully, to restore. Paragon Drive Backup worked the first time.

I use a combination of Complete PC Back up and the file back up utility. Both work fine for my needs though I wish I had a few more options over what to backup with the file backup utility.

Complete PC backup works very well and is easy to use.
