    none

Registry cleaners are of debatable worth--when they work, they do almost nothing, when they do not work, they kill your computer. (I know I am going to get a dozen people who swear they are the greatest thing since sliced bread)

Tuneup utilities? Defrag and run a chkdsk regularly, keep your startup entries pared down. The rest is of marginal use.

Pretty much what GerryF19 has just said.

That goes for both XP and Vista users. I personally run the occasional Registry Cleaner (Registry Mechanic), and I don't really know if it makes my computer run any faster, but nothing's even gone wrong.

Also, a Defragment every now and then when you're going to sleep doesn't hurt either, and when you have some spare time, a CHKDSK is also good.

Manging what you install and download and view on your computer is also good, and making sure that you don't have a lot of programs running when you start up your computer will also insure that you're getting the best performance your system can offer :)

fixed a computer last week that was unbootable after Registry Mechanic killed the registry...this is the second time in the past three years that I ran into this with this partitcular piece of software...(at least that is what the user told me precipitated the crash--I only fix 'em, I try not to condemn the user)..that's only two times with this particular cleaner, but I thought I would mention it.

been using tuneup utilities 2007 for a while, seems to be working quite well. Although I really don't see it as a necessity, it's just a program to kill time when I'm bored

I like Tune U Utilities as well. Sure, reg cleaners are of dubious value but..

    Start Up manager
Lots of informative system information views
1 click maintenance (reg cleaner, temp clean up etc)
    Disk Space Explorer
    AWESOME registry editor
    Shredder and Undelete
Process Manager ( I don't think that's totally compatible with vista though, seems like I can't terminate processes)

The price is right, and its a well designed program that does have some useful features.
