Could be any number of things, from bad RAM (incl. video RAM), to faulty/corrupt drivers (the usual suspects) to a virus (less likely). Is there anything in the event log that correlates with the crashes?

Also, here's the MS knowledgebase article on troubleshooting stop:0x0000008e errors: KB945658. Read through that and see if anything's applicable to you.

The error seems to have been caused by the fastfat.sys.
Just to confirm, check for a .dmp file with the relevant date in the Windows/Minidump folder. Upload it.
Also, Run > Msinfo32 > Save as .NFO and upload it.

The .sys file is most likely corrupted due to the viruses. If that is the case, you will need to run a Repair Install, as it is a native XP driver, and there is no INF available for it.

It can also be caused due to a software installed on the system, which is not fully compatible with XP. (e.g. ULead Systems ??)
