I like InfraRecorder. Though, I've noticed it simply doesn't work with some burners for seemingly no reason at all.

Whatever software you use, be sure to burn it utilizing the programs 'burn ISO' function. It will likely be listed as, 'burn disc from image'. It will be bootable without any tinkering, since the ISO is preset to be.

I have succesfully burned win7 onto a dvd, but my computer does not give me an option to boot from the disk. I am currently running xp. Check my specs for the computer (if that helps). Any suggestions?

When you boot your computer, check for the F-key to access the 'Boot Menu' of your computer. It should display the appropriate key at the bottom of the screen for the first few seconds at the initial black screen with text. Press that key and select your disc drive at the following menu.

If this doesn't work, check that you burned the DVD properly. Explore the contents of the DVD in Windows to be sure the ISO was unpacked and burned as several files on the disc. If you instead only see one file, the ISO file, reburn the DVD using the 'burn image' feature of your software.
