Ok so I'm finally coming to the decision of a new notebook. I'm pretty settled that I'll buy a Dell M90 refurbished. Problem is that I of course can't customize those. It is very difficult for some reason to find a UXGA screen in refurbished...anyway as for my subject line.
If I buy a machine with Vista Business, how difficult is it to start over with XP? I think I have my original XP CD somewhere, though I may buy XP Pro to install...I've heard some this is the way to go so that I can upgrade to Vista once the service pack is out and it's ready to use as my main machine.
OR...should I just go with Vista? Here's the system I'm looking at:
Operating System
Genuine Windows Vista BusinessMemory
2 GB DDR2 SDRAM 677MHz (2 DIMMs)Hard Disk Drive
100 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)Video
256MB NVIDIA Quadro FX 1500M, (dedicated), OpenGLCertified Refurbished
Certified RefurbishedBase
Precision Mobile Workstation M90 Notebook: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7200 (2.00GHz/667MHz/4MB)Media Bay
8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capabilityNetwork Interface Card
3945 802.11a/g Wireless Mini CardNoteBook Screen
17 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen UXGA Notebook ScreenHardware Upgrade
9 Cell Primary Battery
I'll not be playing games on this...will be running CS2, Vegas Video, MS Office, Dreamweaver, Nero, Limewire...I will have 2 external monitors connected through a docking station, and I'll be connecting some sort of a device to allow me to bring in clips from my VCR/DVD player, other than that the only other hardware is a HP printer and and HP Scanner.
Thanks!

It is not difficult to re-image with XP Pro. Mine came with XP MCE and I re-imaged just to get rid of the bloatware. Even though I now have the Vista upgrade I will wait 'til SP1 is out before installing. There are tutorials on this site which will guide you through the process.
buy with Vista but reinstall with XP?
