i have already installed the first old (beta?) version of the service pack v.668 which after the install it has the watermark at the bottom right corner on the desktop displaying as evaluation copy, build 6001.

now i downloaded the standalone sp1 from ms download center. but when i run it, it pops out a message saying windows vista service pack 1 is already installed. but mine is not even the final version/build. and it doesn't let me install the final release version   anyone know the problem?

    RTFM. :D

All the documents from Microsoft and numerous threads here and elsewhere all clearly state you have to UNINSTALL the beta first.
