I'm trying to change my keyboard from a standard US keyboard (101) to a Japanese keyboard (109). It used to be you would go into control panel, then select keyboard, look under properties, select type of keyboard, install drivers, and you could switch it (this is from memory). Now, I can't seem to do it. I've tried from the control panel -> hardware and sound -> keyboard, can't seem to find anything that would change it to 109 keys. I also have the region and language set to be able to do Japanese, but this section of control panel seems to only deal with IME control. Anyone know how to switch the keyboard in Win7?

    Thanks,
    Bertman

OK, I partially figured it out. So going into Device Manager, I see that my keyboard is something called HID Keyboard. What I'm actually using is a wireless 109 Japanese keyboard that came with a Dell desktop that was bought in Japan. I tried changing the properties and installing new drivers for it. I deselected the show compatible hardware and was finally able to see Japanese PS/2 Keyboard 106/109. If I select it, the OS gives me a warning that it's incompatible. If I ignore and go ahead, then it shows up in Device Manager with a yellow warning sign. And the keyboard is non-responsive.

Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks.

did you go into Region and language -> Keyboards and Languages -> Change Keyboard, and add the keyboard and the language there?
