check for updates (win10) trying to load old defender virus definitions

my windows 10 update is stuck trying to download this old definition for defender although i manually downloaded a newer version via the program itself. my last update was 12/23/16.

how do i resolve this? ms fix it cant seem to resolve it.

Here is the ready made shortcut, run it once, select all the options

then run it again, select Cleanup System Files

Then run it a third time by right clicking it and choosing Run as Administrator

After the cleanup is done, reboot and try updating again

 

thanks for suggesting. unfortunately, it didnt work. i remember being in the same situation some years ago with win7 and there were some command prompt options to flush and reset the win update cache. im not sure though if that will work with win10 and ive forgotten what those commands were. will wait for some people to chime in before posting on reddit and such.
