hey guys, i got a 80gb ssd and i somehow loose some gb of diskspace every week. Restore points are disabled and i dont know where that space goes to. Is there a way to find out easily? e.g. to see which file has gained the mb during the last week or which new file is the biggest one during the last week etc.

    thx bb

have you disabled pagefile and hibernation, unless you need the pagefile some software does.

just untick it, then select no pagefile and click apply , then reboot.

Also check you c: for the pagfile , you will need to enable show hidden files in organize, folder and search options.

I have 4GB RAM too in my Lenovo, but still keep the PageFile off. Becouse basicly those 4GB's are important for me. And I never use an app which needs more then 4GB RAM. Only use it for school work...

turning pagefile off might gain you temporarily 4gb of storage, but it won't fix the issue that you have less and less and less storage over time. so just don't do it, as it's not the help you're looking for (starwarsquote anyone? :))

and to all others, you should turn it back on, all of you. but you knew that already :)

edit: you use vmware, right? is any of the virtual disks set to "growing"? if so, that might be the case for the loss of more and more storage.

My suggestion to you, download Ccleaner and clean your temporary files as first step :D
Then, type %temp% in searchbar at startmenu and delete all the temporary files. Then go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download you can delete the files insde the download folder. This is place where windows keep the temporary Windows Update files... :)

Try to run the build in Disk Cleaner. This can maybe give you some MB or GB's back :)

you have system restore running right? that creates snapshots of some system files, they can be huge.

hm.. quite out of ideas right now..

i guess at that point i'd install windirstat and check out which folders look suspicious.
