I have been getting a couple error messages saying I need to run chkdsk. So I go to Start>Run and
    Code:
    chkdsk /f
. It says it needs to run on reboot, I hit yes. Then, I reboot but it doesn't run. Tried it a few times.

I have a dual boot setup with Ubuntu so I go through GRUB to startup XP.

It doesn't confirm anything when I enter that; it just brings up another entry line. Should it?

    I entered
    Code:
    chkntfs /c C:

It might be because of GRUB. It should work but chkdsk changes something in the boot process so it can run before startup.

You can try: chkdsk /f /x
It sometimes works without reboot. Close all programs before you run this.

No it shouldn't. try running it in the actual command prompt (not in the run dialog)
AFAIK, its stored somewhere in the registry, so I don't see how GRUB can interfere with it.

Yeah I guess it cant really be the GRUB (sorry) since it should be something that happens after XP started booting. I know that GRUB caused my Ghost backup to fail because Ghost wanted to restart and boots its own little OS. But I guess check disk just lunches it self before all other windows processes.

I still haven't gotten chkdsk to run. I tried chkdsk /f /x as well as chkntfs /c C: . But still nothing on the reboot.

Well, I got it to run but not through Windows. I have Norton Ghost 12. So I booted into the recovery environment from the CD and there is an option to run chkdsk from there. So it ran and fixed things so now I am good and able to defrag.
