I once had a Sony Vaio fit 15 with win 8 loaded with bloatware, no recovery disk. However I used a win 8 upgrade disk to do a clean install on a freshly installed SSD, and it worked, though it didn't asked for any serial codes. I'm guessing the notebook had some sort of embedded registration or something.. But I'm getting a MSI notebook, and has a win 8.1, and not sure if it would be the same experience like before doing a clean install with a version 8 only. What are your thoughts? I could try and download an iso, but just want to know if it may be possible with a Windows 8 disk.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

Recent laptops especially those packaged with Windows 8 use UEFI secure boot. The Windows 8 activation key IIRC is embedded in the UEFI BIOS.

Would it be likely the same effect with a Windows 8 DVD on a 8.1 machine?
