I've got a question! Behold:
How do I fiddle with the newfangled colors things in Vista?
I want to make the very light shades more saturated, as they're too white by default on my HEL80's display. In XP it was in the nvidia control panel, but I'm not seeing that here, but I am seeing a new utility for managing colors...

You mean the theme colours?
Go to Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Personalization>Windows Colour Appearance.
Then you got "Show colour mixer" for more detailed colour editing. -
I think he means brighness, contrast, and gamma controls

*sigh* Yes. I've got to work on the ambiguity in my posts. I meant the gamma, contrast, et al. There is a color management app in Vista. You can find it in the control panel somewhere. I was asking because I'm hoping I can use it to manually fiddle with the settings, but I don't see a way to do that.
Those settings are not showing up in my nvidia control panel. Perhaps there's some secret setting to turn on that part of the controls... -

Most likely all you need to do is to calibrate monitor gamma. Most LCDs require gamma reducing, as their gamma is a lot more "light" than proper sRGB 2.2
You can use calibration picture from here http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints1A.html, just adjust a Gamma slider in the drivers control panel until you get about 2.2-2.4
Then you should get good colors & contrast without any other tweaks.
