here's the story, i bought my acer 4501 just a day ago. i'm happy with everything on it, except for the fact that acer partitioned the 40gig drive into 2 halves. not only that, but they're fat32, not NTFS.

heres what i want to do: combine the partitions and convert to NTFS. from what i've read across the internet, this is impossible without the partitionmagic software.

i suspect that reformatting the drive, and re-install with a clean store-bought version of XP Pro is the only option. but since i have never reformatted with XP Pro before, i have no idea.

    any thoughts?

Why not just buy partition magic and do it the easy way in just a few minutes time? Your time must be worth some amount of money right? You will save at laest an hours time or even more if you have personalized your install and put any extra applications on the drive. Partition magic is a bargain for the price and you might be able to buy it with a direct download from them.

well i ended up downloading PartitionMagic from Kazaa... there was a slight fear of a virus threat, but the deed is done and i must admit, partitionmagic is some program.

Partition Magic is a great program made by a great software company, it's too bad people are willing to steal their product, downloading pirated software is no different to walking into a store and grabbing a nice pair of sneakers and walking out. I don't think you're the type of person to do that, so just think about the fact the action you took in downloading this pirated software is equivalent to such a thing.

Woah now, in defense of that poor soul, he said he downloaded the app. He never said he had no intention of purchasing it once he found it fits is needs...which I'm sure he'll do [ :D]

sorry, but reality is i'm a poor college student, and i'm scraping for even basic necessities at this point of my life.

you guys ganging up and berating me about downloading some software, sure i'm the one thats wrong, but is it really necessary? am i somehow harming you or your family? does it help elevate anyone to a higher status of understanding? does it do any good? not really... i don't think. my point is, why flame when i never meant to insult you in the first place?

sure, when i get on a payroll i would be much more inclined to shell out 50 bucks whenever i run into a small problem with my computer, but not now. i'd rather use that 50 bucks a couple of good meals.

and gosh, thanks calhoun. glad to see someone doesn't have something stuck up an orifice.
