I woke up and my computer literally stopped working. After the BIOS screen it just doesn't do anything other than that little white line in the corner of the screen blinking.

    It's a dell vostro 1500, w7, 2ghz dual core 2, 2gb ram and bios a6

At least you get past POST so it seems like it's not a major problem.

I agree with safe mode, hold F8 when you turn on the notebook.

If that doesn't work then put in a windows disk and try to boot from it.

    safemode aint there

im 90 % sure that the harddrive just gave up though... but to be sure im mounting a w7 iso to a usb drive to see if it'll fix the problem

just a couple of questions though

i dont have a normal usb, so im wondering if my comp will recognize my ipod and will mountng the w7 image to my ipod cause any complications? will my music library get deleted etc.

Use a second computer and create a linux live CD - KNOPPIX - Live Linux Filesystem On CD

Simple to use :) and reasonably failsafe.
