Laptop is an Acer 6530, 2.0GHz dual-core, 4GB ram and Win 7 64bit, would appreciate advise please:

1 First problem is that the scrolly thing to the right of the mouse pad does work. Very annoying when browsing the net etc!

2 My in-built mic seems to have cocked up somehow. When on a video call, they can hear me if I shout or speak right up against the mic, its almost as if the mic level is turned right down. Ive tried to configure the mic from the control panel>sound>recording tab>properties where you can adjust the mic level. Its is always set at 0, and I can slide it too 100 click OK, but when I go back its at 0 again, or something very low e.g. 3..... wierd!

    Thanks for any help!

    1. Install the Synaptics Touchpad driver either from Acer's website or from Windows Update.

    2. Install/Update your webcam/microphone drivers.

thanks mate, both issues sorted now! :)

BUT.... with the Synaptics Touchpad thing, I noticed that it leaves an annoying icon in the noticfication area of the task bar - im the type who HATES unecessary icons clogging that part of the toolbar up!! So i assumed with this Synaptics icon being there it must start a 'program' on start up, am i right? (another pet hate of mine - always like to keep start up programes to a minimum) So i went into system setting and disabled Synaptics from starting on start up, assuming that the fuction of the scroll strip on the touch pad was not reliant on a seperate programe to be running in the background..... oh how i was wrong!!!

Please tell me I can have the functionality of the scroll strip without the annoyance of a pointless icon on the task bar and a resource zapping programe loading on start up!! Any ideas?

    Thanks

right click that icon, go to properties, and disable the icon

oh, and "resource zapping program". it does not even eat up 1/10000000 of your resources at its best moment.

It's a driver. It has to load at startup. How the hell is it supposed to work if you don't let it run?

think you misunderstood.... i want the driver to load, obviously, i just didnt want the icon on the task bar. computers have dozens of drivers to load, but none of them (except this one it seems) wants to display their own icon on the task bar.
