is there any program out there that can limit cpu usage for specific app? for example winamp will be using 600mhz consistently.

without getting into the technical specifics, i'll just say no because that's not how a computer processes data.

Drumfu's prolly right about the technical stuff. As far as I know, you can't simply divide cpu speed by cpu usage percentage (e.g. 10% cpu usage on a 2000 Mhz cpu doesn't equal 200 Mhz).

But I've been using ProcessTamer for a while now, and this does just what you're asking for; limit cpu usage (as shown in taskmanager) for a specific application.

edit; BTW, in Winamp you can adjust process priority in the general preferences.

thanks. i will try your suggestions.

"how does computer processes data?" as far as i know, cpu is responsible for processing data coming from HD to memory. the speed the cpu processes data depends on the speed of your installed cpu. but it is possible for example to let the cpu run in 600mhz speed for any app using NHC. what i want, however, is for cpu to run 600mhz consistently say to one app while run it normally with other apps. what i really want is to limit the speed of cpu for diff applications.

you're asking the cpu to run at 2 different speeds at the same time which is physically impossible.

can't you just go into the device manager, and then the processes tab, and set the priority to low, for winamp
