    Hi guys,

csrss.exe (Window's process) is CONSTANTLY accessing the drive in my laptop. This forces it to not spin down which drains battery life badly. Thing is, it's only reading two little files. I use Windows XP Pro SP2

    C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\Policies\x86_policy.6.0.Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls_6595b64144ccf1df_x-ww_5ddad775\6.0.2600.2982.Policy
    C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\Manifests\x86_Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.2600.2982_x-ww_ac3f9c03.Manifest

Over, and over, and over again.

    Check this log out:

What are these files, and how can I stop them being accessed so often?

Stop/Disable the "Terminal Services" service and it will stop.

You will lose the Fast User Switching and Remote Desktop functionality though.

No encryption software. I did not have AV, so I installed AVG just to check for stuff.

Those two files are relating to the dll comctl32.dll, which handles visual styles.

Could you try disabling Windows Automatic Updates?
