When I click the shortcuts on my desktop they won't open. All other buttons seem to work normally, it's just a problem with those shortcuts.

    Any idea?

Edit: I've traced the issue to a driver install for my recently purchased gaming mouse. Uninstalling doesn't help, you have to use system restore.

Do none of the icons on the desktop work or just some of them?

If none of the icons work(ie double-clicking does nothing) then check if 'Show Desktop Icons' is checked(right click on desktop)-arrange icon by-show desktop icons.

If its just a few icons check the properties of the icons(might want to restart you computer and run and anti-virus/sypyware scan aswell)

Maybe somebody pulled that trick where all the icons are actually part of the wallpaper ;-)

I've traced the problem to a recent driver installation. I've just bought a new mouse(razer diamondback 3g) and when I install the driver and change the setting it messes stuff up. Uninstalling doesn't help, only windows restore. I would be really thankful if someone knows how to avoid this.

Did you also clean up your registry after uninstalling? Something could have been left over that makes the problem remain.
