hi, this is no ad, but I just want to share my experience. I have many IM networks accounts (msn, Gtalk, ICQ, AIM) and I have been always trying some cross platform instant messengers. Trillian, Miranda, Pidgin....
But I have to say, that DIGSBY rules them all :) thats the best one I have met and Im completely amazed by it. It is very pleasing visually, you have all the features that you want with a big contact list (hide offline users, empty groups)....plus there is no "there is an update availabe...." msg, but only digsby will tell you that there is a new update ready waiting for you and it will be applied next time you run digsby....it is a small things like this that make my life easier...I highly recommend trying it.... www.digsby.com

YOur really gonna pay for an IM client?(the final will not be free). IMO, Pidgin is much better, it's lightweight, does the job well, and it's free and open source.
    Beat that.

Am I the only one annoyed by Pidgin's idiotic mascot? I mean, look at it:

Not that I'm complaining about the program itself; its great and I use it. But that stupid-looking bird has to go.

    LOL

Anyway, I don't mind the Pidgin mascot. Looks ok imo.

Hadn't really checked out Digsby before, but looks ok. I'd still like to know what's better about it. (Compared to both Pidgin and Trillian, the ones I use the most)

LOL!, it's ok, as long as it doesn't get to large, the tiny icon is ok.

I think it looks cute, but if you don't like the bird you don't have to use the program. In fact, i don't think I've seen it since installation so you'd be fine.
Keep in mind this is still a beta, here is a quick list of positives and negatives:

    Positives:
    Look (GUI)
    Features (Docking, etc.)

    Negatives:
    Huge memory usage
Sometimes very unstable with unexpected problems

Trillian can do those too (but doesn't crash or use huge memory)
In particular, isn't *every* IM client skinnable?

I'd expected more strong points from the "best IM client"

I've used Digsby before. It was terrible. When I tried to maximize the window it just went all berserk and started to lag. I tried to scroll up and for a moment I thought my computer froze. It then started scrolling by bunny hops. It looks nice, but I guess that's the only thing going for it. Style-wise, I love Trillian with the Simply XPMC skin the best.

Never said it was the best myself, you might want to ask the OP for a list of why he thinks it's good. I only have that info from extensive testing.

I just started using Digsby the other day and it is great. It kind of reminds me of Adium, very clean layout.

I was about to try Digsby after everyone recommended it, but stopped when they wanted me to register for an account to install the app. Not sure why I should have to register for their site to use a server I have to also be registered for in addition...

Went back to Pidgin since I only get as far as the install...

All of your settings are stored on the Digsby servers, so that when you use Digsby from another computer everything is automatically setup. This is a wonderful feature if you ask me, because I use Dibsby at home and at work, and it's nice not having to re-setup everything.

I like Digsby. :( I hope it stays free after the beta period ended.

    What makes me likes Digsby:
    - I can use the same setting for every computer, just login with my Digsby account.
    - SNS. Actually, I have a dislike towards SNS, but it is pretty useful to keep up with my friends and with Digsby, I don't have to open the SNS site from my browser to check what's new.
    - E-mail. Checks my multiple Yahoo and Gmail account. Can even mark as read and delete directly from Digsby.
    - Dock on the systray. That way it doesn't have to clutter my taskbar.

Miranda all the way! Minimalistic highly customizable IM is what the world needs... not different versions of commercial free MS msn looks. ;)
