Is there a way of completley disabling the computer sleep or hibernate mode when you close a laptop screen? Basically I want the computer to remain on when the screen is completely closed.
My laptop's screen blew, and I have it connected to an external monitor, and I want to connect a mouse and keyboard and leave the laptop closed.
Can this be done? Any help would be good thanks.

    for xp:

go to start, then select control panel.
    select power options.
    select advanced.
under "when i close the lid of my portable computer" select do nothing.
    done.

the instructions should be similar for vista, not sure which OS you have on this 'mystery' laptop. hehe.

    To disable hibernation:

Start cmd.exe under administrator account and type

powercfg /hibernate off and click enter.

To turn it on back : powercfg /hibernate on.

You will save around 2 GB of hard drive space by disabling hibernation.
