I would like to clone both my partitions on my internal HDD to my external HDD. The application should also include a recovery cd ISO or sub-app which allows me to create my own recovery CD. I will not be backing up my files to the CD, but instead to the external.

In addition, the application must support recovery from a usb device (external HDD). I recently installed paragon partition manager 9.0 pro, and burnt my own recovery cd. I popped in the cd and restarted my machine, but the paragon software would not see my external drive. this is a big no no.

    Suggestions are welcome.

Try acronis true image echo. I use it at work and have had no problems reinstalling from either an external usb drive or a shared network resource. It can be a pain with some PC's not seeing the external drive but this was due (for me at least) to the bios not supporting legacy usb devices very well.
