how do you perform a driver roll back?
specifically a graphics driver... i'd like to roll back my GMA x3100 driver i downloaded from intel.. i think its causing a resolution minimization during full screen games.

Go to Device manager (On Classic View Control Panel, go to System, then click on Device Manager in the sidebar), expand the "Display Adapters" heading, right-click on your adapter and go to properties. Click the "Driver" tab, then click "Roll Back Driver."

Thanks so much for the walk-through! but i cannot select "Roll Back" AHHHHHHHH!!!! WHAT THE POOP!
i know i updated it, because i had to restart and the icons were moved because the resolution hopped to a smaller size or something.... -
Hmmm...You could always try a system restore (start -> all programs -> accessories -> system tools -> system restore), but it's kind of strange that the driver rollback is disabled.
-
damnit... a system restore would delete all my current files and programs right?
i'm still trying to stuff this baby full with my desktop files so i can be fully functional(entertained) without the desktop...
yea, its not selectable =(
i'll think about a system restore... thanks for the suggestions Thain! -
Was the previous driver a native Vista one or did you install it from somewhere?
If it was native, just uninstall the driver from Device Manager, reboot, and let Windows reinstall the original one automatically......

Ohhh This sounds GOOD! i was about to do a system restore too but decided to tell u guys. the previous driver was native VISTA, came with the pc and all that good factory settings and what not. lemme check this out! be prepared to get married!

R4000's suggestions sounds as if it may work, but I thought I'd set your mind at ease about system restore option, too. All a system restore does is revert programs and settings to the way they were on whatever date you choose.
Say, for example, everything is working well on October 1.
October 2 you install a driver and everything is screwed up.
October 3, thinking you can perhaps live with this, you install Firefox, Thunderbird, TightVNC, Microsoft Office, and UltraMon.
October 4, after working on a 5-page essay, a PowerPoint presentation, and a computer class spreadsheet, you decide you really can't live with it, so you do a system restore to October 1.
The driver reverts to the old driver, Firefox, Thunderbird, TightVNC, OpenOffice.org, and UltraMon are removed. HOWEVER: Your 5-page essay, your presentation, and your spreadsheet remain intact, ready to use as soon as you reinstall OpenOffice.org.
System Restore is designed to repair system settings without harming your documents, and it only removes programs uninstalled since the restore point you choose (and you can also create a restore point before doing the system restore so that everything can be automatically restored if the chosen restore point does not fix the problem). -
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
yes! i suppose i had it all backwards! the words, "SYSTEM RESTORE" sound 50/50 good/bad. Thanks for clearing this up! and for your assist! KUDOS! -
