    dual boot problem

    ok i was going to install windows on my external hdd but it messed up somewhere, i dont want it on there anymore. so heres the problem when i start up my comp it gives me a choice to chose xp pro or mce but the xp pro one doesnt work naturally so im wanting to know where the folder would be for xp pro so i can delete it.

    Boot with a Win XP CD and choose repair option and select the correct Windows(XP or MCE) you want to keep and then type 'fixmbr' at the cmd prompt. That should disable the boot menu.

    didnt work :( it seemed to have removed a file but it still goes to the dual boot screen.

    WARNING: If you mess something up below, you could make your computer unbootable, and require a reinstall, or at least a repair install.

    The file you need to edit is c:\boot.ini

    It should have listings for both your Windows versions. Just remove the one you no longer need, and it should boot to the only one listed.

    ok i deleted the string where it had xp pro and saved it, im still having the same problem though.

    nope still shows up, ive restarted several times and shut it down and still shows up.

    Go into msconfig, go to the boot.ini tab, click on Check All Boot Paths. If you have already removed the Windows you do not want, it should fix your boot options automatically.
    Make sure to click on Apply after you're done.
