When installing Vista Ultimate 32 bit (retail) on a notebook with pre-existing XP am I supposed to install Vista on the same partition (C drive) as the XP is on, or should Vista be installed on a separate partition? If separate, should the new partion be called primary and should it be assigned a drive letter?a drive letter?

Install it on a separate partition. Create the new partition during the setup, Vista setup has a utility for creating partitions.
