I have heard that xp home doesnt support multiple prcessors(pro however, does)...does this mean that a dual core processor is useless when paired with said OS? Where does xp media center fit into this????
this question is directed at ONLY the intelligent

Home will run a dual core fine. It is 2 cores on 1 chip, so physically it's a single processor. Pro and MCE will both also run dual core processors. MCE is basically pro with the ability to join a domain stripped out and some media functions added in.

you da man Vespy...you da man

yea it will work. i think u have to go into your registry to make it use both processors at the same time though

You can run XP Home, but unless I am mistaken, it does not take advantage of the duo core processor. SpeedStep may work, but the OS can't split processes between the two cores. I don't think MCE takes advantage of the duo core processor, either.

I was told this too by a computer company called evesham in the UK. But im running a core duo and xp home and i can quite happily run a virus scan while on the net etc with no lag. So im not complaining.

I've read something like this on the board too, but I can see the difference between a duo core and a single core, so I don't know how Windows "isn't using" the duo core processor.

Are there any benchmarks comparing xp home and xp pro in regards to the cpu?

If you havent yet, check out my thread in this forum (20,000 hits already):
Windows XP Multi Core config and Benchmarks
As for your question, essentially XP Home, Pro, MCE are the same OS with minor differences... such as Pro has more networking options, MCE has MCE
, etc.
The Dual Cores will runs the same on all of the XP OS's... granted that you configure the OS's the same way.
