PowerDVD has a feature to not maintain aspect ratio. I don't think Media Player has this capability. I'm not sure what other players have, but this option in PowerDVD allows you to stretch movies to fit a screen. It also has this cool feature called CLPV (Cyberlink Pano Vision) that will perform a "smart" strtech/compression of the image so it looks correct on different screens (wide or 4:3).

Not sure if any other player has this feature, so you may have to use PowerDVD for now.

You can adjust media player by going to Start> All Programs> Accessories > Entertainment> Media Center> Media Center Programs> CyberLink Settings. Set the Video Stretching to CLPV. Also, in my opinion, CLEV is the best looking Video Enhancement.

It's just a more advanced way of stretching the picture so that some images don't look as distorted or well...stretched for a lack of a better term. I use it with MCE and find it gives me the best picture.

whats the criteria of the file media for the clpv to become active? I tried my powerdvd version 5 after reading this thread but the clpv function was grey on most of my media clips with only the disregard 4:3 aspect ratio active (it did make it full screen on my 15.4 widescreen though).

    Ifie,

I believe you have to be watching a DVD in full sceen mode (stays grey playing divx movies) before you can enable the CLPV feature. Generally, it's for "smart" stretching 4:3 movies to fit on a wide screen without causing distortion. You can use it for wide screen movies as well, but it doesn't stretch that much.
