    Hey guys,

I was hoping that some of you might be able to shed some light on a recurring BSOD I and others are experiencing on Windows 7 x64. The blue screen error is dxgmms1.sys. It occurs when playing a 3D game and seems to be a DirectX related error. DirectX has already been updated to the latest version. Now it appears that other people are also experiencing this error per this thread here.

I can confirm that my system is rock solid stable. My CPU, RAM and GPU have all been tested with no errors.

    Who Crashed data:

If anyone could shed some light on this issue, it would be greatly appreciated.

have you made sure that ALL of your other drivers, chipset, video, disk, etc, etc are up to date?

are you running turbo memory at all?

if you are getting any kind of bsod, your system is NOT rock solid/stable. not anymore.

All drivers are up-to-date, my W7 install is relatively new and I am not running Turbo memory.

It is likely your video driver caused a crash in DX....where did you get the video driver?

Running the latest catalyst 10.3b's. It's happened with previous catalyst installs as well.

I'm starting to doubt the stability of my graphics card yet it passes Furmark for hours with no problems...hmm.

roll back your catalyst drivers and use the ones built into Windows 7--see if that makes a difference. Is this your desktop or laptop?

I really can't use default drivers. I play a lot of games. It only happens during gaming and it's a desktop.

    ok deep breath

exactly (!) what system, specs, OS, etc, etc are you trying to troubleshoot here?

This being a notebook forum most/all of us assumed that your T400 was having problems.

I would uninstall your GPU drive (including Catalyst) and use Diversweeper. Then download this driver. I have troubles installing and using the 10.x on my laptop (modded driver).

Yes, you really can use the default drivers. The difference between the default driver and the new drive is likely 1-5 fps. Most drivers are updated for stability and unless you are experiencing a specific problem with a specific game and the driver has a known issue with the game, there is no absolute reason to update.

Better to lose 1fps then to have constant crashing

I'm downloading Windows 6 x64 install disc. I will try to run a repair install if all else fails. I am really not going to run with the default Windows driver. It is far too outdated for the games I am currently playing. I should have made it clearer that it has been my desktop experiencing these issues.

I've already reset my CPU overclock, so we'll see what happens. If it BSOD's again I'm gonna try running only one RAM stick.

we're not saying that you need to revert to the default video driver. just use an updated one, unmodified and sourced directly from the video card maker.

same deal with all of the other system drivers.

I'm just trying to isolate the issue first. I have a sneaking suspicion I may have a faulty videocard on hand...oh well, just a good excuse to get a new one. But first I must make sure it is the videocard truly at fault. I've tried many different driver sets for the card, from 10.1 all the way to 10.3b now.
