I was looking at eBay to buy additional Win7 OS for my family's laptops and noticed some people are selling Ultimate keys ONLY for about $30.

Are those legally fine from MS?

I will be receiving Ultimate CD / key from MS sometime soon but I would love to install Ultimate on other laptops as well..

Can I use Ultimate CD to install Home Premium, for example?

Uhm, typically if you have any doubt or uncertainty about such a thing, or even feel the need to ask, it is probably because it is a scam.

    i doubt this is legit
it might be that somebody bought it, entered the key and is now selling it, yet still using the key

We should have left the other thread open.... There was 8 pages of discussion. rofl

Turns out, some those keys ARE retail (not msdn or technet), which probably means they were stolen. So, maybe Microsoft will invalidate them in the future, maybe not. It's a gamble.

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. There is little chance you will find a product selling for many times more than that price legitly.

$30 bucks for an experiment is worth it.

I say otherwise- Let people like PopRoxMimo3 do this "Experiment" who have leisure money to gamble on whether an ebay KEY CODE is legit or not.

Plus, 30 dollars for this is too good to be true. Often, something that sounds too good to be true is not true.

i personally contacted ms from the other thread and spoke with someone i know there. the 5 keys i was given to check were all RETAIL keys and ms knows about the ebay thing and are working to put a stop to these. there is a slim chance of them blocking a retail key in the future but who is to say all of the ebay keys are retail or not.. you would not know till you bought one and checked the key itself

mods will prob close this thread to as they said this discussion is about stuff they are not sure where it came from legit wise

In the thread Pluberus linked to we all received our keys and as zfactor stated, they appeared to be legit retail keys. In that thread, there's a link to the sellers old profile, and his new profile (if that one is still current). If you're going to spend $20-$30 to try it out I'd suggest using the seller we all went through, at least you know that in the past those keys have been good. Who knows what other sellers are doing.
