    Hi guys and girls

Does anyone know how to edit C:\msdos.sys i cant seem to edit it in Windows vista because the file is hidden and its only read only. If someone can tell me how i can modify its properities without right clicking the actual file that would be awesome

you maybe wondering why i am doing this, i am trying to build a list of windows vista tweaks that will make boot up faster and shut down faster so far i have gotten shutdown faster

I'm not quite sure what you're asking. Are you asking how to edit it in something like a batch file, without using the GUI?

How long is your boot and shutdown times right now? For me boot time is about a minute or so and shutdown is no more than 15 seconds. However my last boot took like 40 seconds or so...really surprised me.

you can change the shut down speeds from 2 seconds to 20 seconds
there is a built in timer when vista actualy shuts down. You can modify the time

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l

right click WaitToKillServiceTimeout and click modify

change the number from 2000 *thats in miliseconds* to 1000

Erm, what do you want to edit in msdos.sys? It's empty, and it isn't actually used by any OS from Win2k and up.

I'm guessing that's for compatibility with some old program? Read this. It's a little heavy on details, but it should help. If it's a pure DOS program that's not working, consider looking for DosBox and running it through that.
