Most of you already know these tips, but for those who dont, it may answer a lot of your "slow startup" questions in Vista. PCStats lays it out pretty well. Combine it with the clean Vista install, and you should be as speedy as possible. Hopefully it helps someone here out.

Instead of using the stated tips you can use Windows XP. There is no use of using vista disabling all it's advanced features.

Lets see, it starts off with turning off indexing because the author has no clue that the performance hit for indexing is pretty much a one time hit. Once the drive is indexed it only needs to update the index for files added. "OOooooo, that's just a HUGE performance hit. It makes my disk drive thrash all day." Not.
Then he goes on to suggest turning off superfetch because it causes wear and tear on your hard drive. What a stinking load of bull.
Another in a long series of articles by some idiot who thinks he knows more about writing operating systems than the folks who get paid to do this sort of thing.
Yawn.

Here's a better, shorter guide to reducing Vista disk thrashing:
1. Install SP1 if it's not already installed.
2. Set Defender to run its scan weekly instead of daily. Or if you use another antispyware program, you can just switch it off entirely.
3. Disable Superfetch. Yes, I know, having Superfetch on really does speed up program loading a little, but it's not a big deal, and it does cause some disk thrashing, so if it bothers you then go ahead and turn it off.
That's it. The other stuff (Search, System Restore) causes very little thrashing and offers a lot of benefit. -
Has anyone else here checked out the "Mojave Experiment" ?

I formated 2 days ago and the "trashing" lasted for 30 minutes...... I have 2 full partitions (one 33GB and one 48GB).
