hey guys, i extracted the iso file through winrar, burned it on a dvd using nero and now that i'm launching my setup(through apple's bootcamp), it says the disk is not valid..what did i do wrong??i have already deleted the downloaded iso.i don't want to download it again....what happened?
-
-
..... why did you extract the .iso?, you should use a proper iso write, directly to disk..... extracting it kills all boot sector information
http://osxdaily.com/2009/09/11/how-to-burn-an-iso-on-your-mac/
not always the best burner but it does work most days -
It burns the ISO file using Nero.
-
-
Drag and drop is same as an ISO burn .... I shoulda mentioned that, sorry all
-
but shouldnt it work it i just burned what i extracted through winrar?i've only used toast titanium to burn iso files up to now...isn't there any way to repair the disk?i don't want to download the whole 2.33 gb file again...I know that all files are there...
-
ok, the setup starts fine on my pc, it's just that on my mac, when i restart using the dvd, it says no bootable device found....how do i burn it again as bootable media?
-
easiest ...... redownload if you didnt have it saved
other way is to have someone extract the boot sector using ISO buster, sending you the boot sector file and recreating the ISO
its the same basic process as Slipstreaming a service pack onto an XP or vista install disk
http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/winxp-sp2-bootcd.html -
the problem is that i have a verrrrrrryyyy slow connection here(512k)...it will take a long time to download....can't i create a bootable dvd rom using nero? will it work?
-
I have no idea how to do it manually. I've always gotten Nero, AShampoo, Magic ISO, or PowerDVD to do it for me. -
Not that I am aware of.
-
now i understand a bit what i need to do...i read this tutorial here and got a little idea...so does anybody know where i can get the bootsector?? what's it size? @crazycanuk: if it's small in size, can you upload it for me?
-
Its pretty small .. < 100k and I can do that for you when I get home and back to my disks
-
so does it look like the answer?????i highly think so..can anybody confirm it? http://community.dynamics.com/blogs/cesardalatorre/comments/20345.aspx

I'm not understanding something here.
If you just burn the ISO image of a bootable disc, won't the resulting disc be bootable?
When I installed Win7 RTM I merely burned the ISO with Roxio and it worked fine. Is there something special about Macs that mess with burning an ISO image? -
He didnt direct burn the .iso, he extracted it first THEN burnt it losing the boot sector. and yes Luke that should work as the boot sector is in the tools he has ... as long as they havnt changed the boot sector since 7048 and you have a copy if the AIK software
-
i extracted it through winrar on windows....apparently this destroys all the bootable disk information...basically this means that when i insert it on my mac or any pc, it won't detect it as bootable....
-
So wouldn't going back to the ISO file and burning it to a disc (without extracting it or something) solve the problem?
-
Yes, but Luke wants to do this the hard way.
-
lol!!i have already formatted my windows partition on my bootcamp manager...so i no longer have the original iso.downloading it would take a too long time..Can somebody send me the boot sector??i need only this
-
OK Luke, I will give you an alternate suggestion. I am assuming that your MAC will boot from an external USB Flash Drive. If you have a 4GB USB Flash Drive, just format the drive FAT32 (you are using bootcamp) and mark the partition active, that is all the preparation you need to do the USB stick. You may have to use Diskpart from a command prompt to mark the partition as active.
Drag and drop the files you have extracted from the ISO to the Flash Drive and you are finished. Boot to the Flash Drive and W7 will install from the FD. -
I think simple selecting bootable CD/DVD in Nero should also work, just drag all the files into the new dvd and burn it. It works with XP but I am not sure about 7. -
Wave, you need the AIK kit and its half the size of the .iso to download. but with nero you can make bootable with the boot sector file which I did e-mail him
Luke let us know when your up and running -
i finally launched the download before going to sleep yesterday...got it running today!!..thanks for your help bro!!
-
Glad your up and going, enjoy
