This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    By the way - did you try out Adobe Reader 9 or not? Because 8 was dreadful - 9 is much faster - runs fine for me - I think it even works well on an older laptop :)

    if the bootup doesn't show the hdd light illuminated the whole process (if autologon and superfetch are on) till you reach the desktop, you may disable in the bios (or physically remove, as i did, in anger, from my desktop :)) and check if it makes a difference. i got my vista boot down from 2:30 to 30 sec that way.
