i was just wondering is there anyway to get rid of the folders showing up in IE's address bar?
-
Folders in the address bar ?! Try clearing the History....
-
If the folder's are related to programs like yahoo etc go to control panel add + remove programs and look for them there, and uninstall.
-
EDIT: Oh... I think I get it... you mean you don't want folders on your disk appearing in the IE address bar drop-down list, right?... I don't know, but you could use Firefox instead of IE, that'll solve it. -

uhmm, screenshot ?!

1. To delete ALL items in the drop down list:
Select Tools - Internet Options - General tab - Browsing history - Delete... - Delete History.
2. To delete the folder in the drop down list, you have to edit the registry.
Click Start and type "regedit" (without the quotes) on the Start Search. On the left pane, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs. Delete the folder location from the right pane you no longer want to appear in the drop down list. -
thanks i wish der was a permanent soloution but i guess this will have to do for now
-
is there a permanent solution for this yet?
-
If you're using Vista, turn indexing off. Do this in Control Panel -> indexing options. If you see hard drives showing, click on Modify, then on Show All Locations. Uncheck any hard drives that are checked. Exit from here when done.
After that is all done, clear out your browsing history through Internet Options. Restart your PC when this is done. -
i have no hard drives showing in the list when i open up indexing options

I don't use indexing, and I still get folders in my IE address bar. surfguy, have you seen this thread?

This is either a design feature of Vista, or it's a bug in Vista. Either way, short of running the script described in the TechNet thread I linked, there's no fix that I've found. -
this sucks hehe o well

For a permanent solution, and one that only deleted items like file folders and drives from your history, you'd probably have to write a little script in, say, Powershell, that could selectively delete items from your IE browser history. To make sure that you never saw them again, however, you'd probably have to have it running constantly in the background, so it would be just another background process eating up precious resources.
Is it really worth the hassle? -
try to use WinBubbles. Go to IE Tab > Miscellaneous Group > URL History.
hope this helps... -
