I had XP previously, but today, I installed vista today w/o turning AHCI back on in BIOS, so what do you guys think? is it worth to do all the modifications for turning it back on? or just leave it as is?

I've had mine in compatibility since I installed XP on my second HDD... I haven't noticed a difference.

I did a test with XP of SATA mode vs IDE mode.
In a few tests SATA mode was twice the speed of IDE mode.

If you are going to turn it on under BIOS, make sure to go unto Device manager / Properties / turn on advanced performance.

edit: Oh yeah, some HDs won't have this option so ignore my advice if that is the case.
