I forgot the open & modify passwords to an Excel file. Googled for a password retriever but could find only a couple (Accent & others) and that too cost $25-50. Can somebody point me to a free software with no limitations. Damn I thought it should be available free & easily in the www. (whole wide world!!)

Are you using the password just for casual security, to discourage other people using your laptop from having a peek?

Because if it's for something more important, the fact that brute force software can find the password in a reasonable amount of time shows that it's not an adequate form a security for very important information (financial, let's say).

    (just something to consider).

Mine is a shared machine so sometimes I keep passwords for certain personal files. MS Office has never claimed its Excel/Word files to be absolutely password unbreakable, but I believe there are many encryption softwares to strengthen security to a an unbreakable level.

i have also downloaded a set of programs for nearly every files with password. there's even a program included for windows user account and bios passwords.

Now my problem is i forgot my hard disk password in the vaio bios setup. but i know the secondary password. Any software to crack the Admin password of the HD? will sony consider cracking it if i have the proof of purchase and registration?
