    Try Open Office, it's free

    http://www.openoffice.org/

A few years ago, Microsoft tried to steal Sun Microsystem's Java, and called it "Virtual Machine". It was included in XP SP1. MS was sued over it, lost, and removed it, and then released XP SP1a. (you can no longer download SP1)

Sun didnt easily forget. So now they back a free, Linux approach, to an "Office" suite that is compatible with Microsoft.

    Product Description

OpenOffice.org the product is a multi-platform office productivity suite. It includes the key desktop applications, such as a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation manager, and drawing program, with a user interface and feature set similar to other office suites. Sophisticated and flexible, OpenOffice.org also works transparently with a variety of file formats, including those of Microsoft Office.

Nice thing about it, is it allows you to open save .doc, .xls, .ppt, etc. file extension without losing formatting.

Think about how much money Microsoft has lost from ALL the companies that have sued them and won because Microsoft can't come up with their own stuff, some very recently but I can't remember what exactly.

Im sure is isnt going to bankrupt MS, but they got spanked.

The agreements involve payments of $700 million to Sun by Microsoft to resolve pending antitrust issues and $900 million to resolve patent issues. In addition, Sun and Microsoft have agreed to pay royalties for use of each other's technology, with Microsoft making an up-front payment of $350 million and Sun making payments when this technology is incorporated into its server products.

The article makes them sound all buddy/buddy.

Lawsuit payments are a cost of maintaining the monopoly for Microsoft.
