    hello
after installing a new hard drive, re-loading the operating system (windows xp) using the original cd.s, and then going through all current updates, the screen shows everything with a squished look. the monitor on my laptop is about 9"X14.5" (about 3:5 aspect ratio) and the error looks to be proportional with it trying to stretch out a 3:4 image to fit. i can't seem to find a means of customizing the screen resolution values to correct for this distortion. please help. thank you.

Try finding the correct video driver, you might also need to get the chipset driver which sometimes contain the base AGP driver for the subsequent GPU drivers.

    cheers ...

thanks for the nudge in the right direction...the "ati" (oe/gateway) screen driver was inadvertently not re-installed from the "driver recovery disk" onto the new hard drive. all is working properly now. thanks again.
