    going from 32bit -> 64bit vista home premium

    You can in fact activate a 64bit OS with a 32 bit OEM key. I've done it myself. I used the 64 bit DVD from windows feedback panel and used the key on the bottom of my laptop(OEM key) and installed. Only problem was it wouldn't activate online, so I called and activated x64 vista home premium.

    I have used Orev's ABR tool(HP Forum sticky) to copy my 32bit oem Vista key and certificate from the original install, installed vista 64bit and restored the key and certificate, again with Orev's ABR tool. It works flawlessly. No activation required.

    The key on the bottom of your laptop is not actually the bulk oem key used to install Vista on branded pc's. It is your real key, which never needs to be used if you use Ore'v wonderful utility.
