well, I got a new Acer Extensa 4620Z running vista home premium. I really love it, but I have some questions:

now that I am a little familiar with it, what am I to do now? in the hardware section I put a thread asking about partitions (if wrong section apologies). basicially, what can I do to improve my machine?

    thanks

check out the TOP VISTA TWEAKS YOU CAN FIND thread. about the partition, right click on my computer and click on manage, I forgot what to do from there.....lol. You'll be able to figure it out.

about the what to do now? what do you want to do(besides make it run better)? install some apps? play some games? listen to music? not sure where you're going..

well, is there anything to do that will make much of a difference? I grew up with macs, so I know computers, espicially hardware, but the software angle is fuzzy. I can install apps and do the basic things, but for complex things...

and as for the partition, I was asking for better options to be more efficient

Like harpreet said, follow the Vista tweaks guide, then install the apps you need for productivity and fun!
Or if you're thinking hardware, you could install some more RAM? Are you not satisfied with performance?

ha, no I am more then happy with it. I just was looking for the tweaks mostly. I somehow missed that article. after reading it, wow, i only did part of the guide, the rest I was too scared to do. I decided that my computer is fast enough, so I wont do anything remotely dangerous.

remember what I was going to ask, I dont think it came with any restore disks or anything, so how do I go about making a recovery disk (and optimizing everything before hand). Akso, what else should I put on backup disks.

or is a thumb drive better? If I can pick up a good cheap thumb drive for a password recovery and readyboost (do I need readyboost with 2 gigs RAM?).

You should fresh-install it before anything to remove bloatware. Then apply all those tweaks/updates.

well, I will look for the CD's now. But for the fresh Install, my Acer comes with real nice software that I want. Wouldnt I lose it if I fresh install?

If you have an external hdd or jump drive, I think you can back it up to either or.

What are these softwares that you want to keep?

I don't know how Acers work but for Sony, theres an option to download all original software+drivers after reformatting so search around.

so far I cant find any recovery disks. and my computer is having problems (got this computer from family, and so after I changed the name from his to mine, I had a problem saving under my account (admin problems). so would a fresh install fix theses.

since I cannot find any recovery disks, how can I make them, and back up the acer software (cant find it on their site).

Yeah, a fresh install would fix that. I think you should go ahead and ask your questions in the Acer forum. You might get better responses there.

ok, thread in acer forum too.

is there any other software I need that came with the computer before I wipe it clean? because I remember hearing that if I lacked the software that came with the computer, I would lose it all.

I am kinda tempted to not clean install, as I am scared about what will happen if I mess up and lose something.

i realized why I was having some problems with my folder. The original owner made his folder and had the pictures, music, etc. folders that come with windows. I copied them all into my own folder. but his folder had a little symbol it yhe bottom corner, which mine didnt have. so I moved everything back into his folder and it was fixed. of course it has his name... How could I make a folder that is an "admin folder" or whatever.

Have you read the manual for this notebook? Might be a good idea. You can probably download it from the Acer site or it could already be on your notebook like mine is.
