I am trying to do a clean install of xp as I am giving my old desktop to a friend. I inserted the reinstallation cd for win xp and it started to run automatically and I followed directions until I get to the spot where it shows the partitions. it defaults to the small d partition and when I arrow down to c-I am assuming I would want the os on the c drive-it tells me there is another os on that drive and installing two os can cause trouble. so I cancel out and reboot and the windows setup screen comes and takes me to the same point. HELP!

You have to format the drive. Should be an option on that screen.

I deleted the d partition and thought I deleted the c and reinstalled and now I have it installed twice. Should I just killdisk?

Installed what twice? XP ?? If you want to remove one installation then simply format the partition with the unwanted XP installation and edit the boot.ini file to get rid of the redundant boot entry. BTW don't format the active partition (because that is where the boot leader is saved)
